Margaret River

In a stunning region in the southwest corner of Australia, you will find The Margaret River, synonymous with the town bearing the same name. From white sandy beaches and turquoise waters to world-class wineries and breweries, there’s something to do for everyone. Understandably, you would never want to leave.

Things To Do in Margaret River

Have you found your Margaret River accommodation or perfect holiday home? Then immerse yourself in the famous Margaret River wine region, be spoiled for choice of surf breaks and explore the natural attractions. Or perhaps you wish to experience a culinary weekend away. Some of the best things to do in Margaret River during your stay:

Explore the Natural Beauty

Take some time to explore the stunning natural surroundings of the region, including the Cape to Cape Track. Stretching between two lighthouses north and south of the town, this long-distance walk fringes the limestone caves and sea cliffs of Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park.

Relax on one of the beautiful beaches, or hike in the nearby forests.

Wine Tasting

Margaret River has become renowned for its world-class wine production, and you can experience it first-hand by taking a tour of one or more of the many wineries in the area. You can even customise your tour according to your wine preferences and taste.

Visit the Local Breweries

If you’re looking for a break from wine tasting, head to one of the many local craft breweries for some unique ales, lagers and ciders. The region has plenty of options, and the beers are made with only the finest, locally-grown ingredients.

Enjoy the Markets and Shopping

The region hosts markets throughout the year where you can find locally made products, from crafts, art and food to clothes and jewellery. One such place is the Margaret River Farmers Market. Numerous boutique stores offer unique local items.

Surfing

Margaret River has been a renowned surfing destination since the 1950s when the first wave riders began their journey to this beachfront paradise, and it has become known as one of the world’s premier surfing spots. Surfing in Margaret River is an experience that any surfer would remember fondly – with consistent waves, high-quality conditions, and beautiful scenery, it is easy to see why an increasing number of surfers are flocking to this area.

Today, it has become one of Australia's best places for beginners and experienced surfers alike.

Whale Watching

A prime spot for whale watching. Each year, from May to October, visitors of the Margaret River region can witness the spectacular sight of majestic humpback whales as they migrate up and down the coast. The best place to see these magnificent creatures is from the iconic Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse.

Other activities in the area include bushwalking, mountain biking, fishing, kayaking, and much more.

How to Get to Margaret River from Perth

Margaret River is 280 kilometres south of Perth or a three-hour drive by car. There are also alternative and cheaper ways to get there, such as by train or bus. Book your Margaret River accommodation for at least two nights to enjoy everything the region offers.
